Zank has always enjoyed photography, but recently began focusing on her vision as an artist.
“I do my photography in memory of my grandmother, who told me always to take more time to see all the beauty around me,” Zank said. “She passed away during COVID, and that’s when I started to take more photos and appreciate nature more.”
Schelinder, who has been creating glass art for more than a decade, also draws her inspiration from nature and the world around her.
The joint exhibit is borne out of a concept Schelinder had for a grant. “I’ve always been a fan of Brooke’s gorgeous photography. I was intrigued by the idea of trying to replicate some of her landscapes in glass.”
Schelinder pursued a McKnight Grant from the East Central Regional Arts Council to bring the concept to life. Using a variety of methods, Schelinder has sought to reinterpret some of her favorite photographs by Zank for the exhibit. Likewise, Zank took on the challenge of seeking out landscapes and scenes that were inspired by some of Schelinder’s completed pieces.
The result is a collection of nature and landscape photography, reflected in glass art, that celebrates the beauty and diversity of the natural world.
Reflections will open at Pine Center for the Arts on Friday, August 4, with an artist reception 4-7 pm. Wine, beer, and appetizers will be served. The reception is free and open to the public. The exhibit will continue throughout the month. The gallery is open 10 am- 5 pm on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and 11 am-5 pm, Sunday.
