Overview
These workshops are for individuals who want to explore the healing capacity of writing and how writing can be a way to connect or reconnect with self. Research shows writing can be cathartic and a way to process feelings. This is not to say that your writing in the workshops must focus on any hardships. Rather, you will write only what you are inspired to write.
The sessions will be modeled after Writing to Wholeness where “we come to the circle as writers. The writing circle is therapeutic, but it is not therapy; It is supportive, but it is not a support group.” The purpose of the workshops is to guide participants into self-affirmation, self-discovery, community, and connection.
Caveats
The intentions of the workshops are to provide self-reflection and community through the sharing of writing. With that, you decide how you want to participate. During our time together, you can share only what you want with the group. There is no requirement to speak and/or to offer up what you have written. The writing sessions will begin with prompts inspired by poetry; however, you get to decide whether to follow them or not. Also please note that Stacey is not a therapeutic practitioner; the workshops are not professional therapy nor mental healthcare nor a support group. Stacey is, however, a survivor of childhood abuse and knows the power of incorporating writing within her own healing.
